Everyday care can reduce avoidable problems, but it cannot reverse worn batteries or damaged components. Use these five checks for your phone, tablet or computer, and follow the instructions for your exact model.
1. Keep a backup you can actually use
Check when your last backup completed and which photos, files and app data it includes. A sync setting alone is not proof that everything important is recoverable. Before an update or repair, make a backup if the device is safe and working. If it has stopped turning on and the files matter most, tell the repair team before authorizing a reset or replacement.
2. Install supported updates and check free space
Use the device manufacturer's update process. Android update timing varies by manufacturer, carrier and model; an older device may not support the newest version. Review large downloads and unused apps when storage is tight. Keep a verified copy before deleting files. Avoid unknown cleaner apps or tools that promise to fix every performance problem.
3. Clean the outside gently
Disconnect power and use the cleaning method specified for your device. Apple recommends a soft, lint-free cloth and keeping moisture out of openings; requirements differ by surface. Do not spray liquid directly onto the device or scrape connectors with metal tools. If a port is blocked or damaged, ask for an inspection rather than forcing a cable into it.
4. Match chargers and protection to the model
A connector that fits does not establish that a charger has the correct specifications. Give the store the full model when checking a cable, power adapter, case or screen protector. Replace damaged cables and stop using accessories with exposed wiring. A case can help with everyday handling, but it does not guarantee protection from falls or liquid.
5. Act on changes before they become a bigger problem
Write down when shutdowns, charging interruptions, unusual heat, screen flickering or touch problems began. Include any drop, liquid exposure or previous repair. Stop charging a visibly swollen or physically damaged device and arrange an evaluation; do not press it back together. For persistent problems, a diagnosis is more useful than repeatedly buying parts or resetting the device.
