If your iPhone drains fast or shows low Battery Health, start with the facts on the phone. Don’t order a battery from one percentage alone. I want to know the exact model, maximum capacity, any message under Peak Performance Capability, and whether the phone gets hot, shuts down or also has a charging problem. That gives us a better starting point before we recommend a repair.
Stop using and charging the iPhone if the battery is swollen, the screen or back is lifting, the phone is unusually hot, it smells burned, or it was punctured or crushed. Don’t press it closed. Keep it away from anything flammable and call the store for a safe next step.
Check Battery Health before guessing
Open Settings, tap Battery, then open Battery Health or Battery Health & Charging. Apple says this screen shows maximum capacity and peak performance information on supported iPhones. Write down the percentage and the exact message you see.
Maximum capacity compares the battery with when it was new. A lower number can mean fewer hours between charges, but the percentage does not tell me everything about the phone. Tell us about shutdowns, heat, charging behavior and how quickly the percentage falls during normal use.
- Exact iPhone model
- Maximum-capacity percentage
- Peak Performance Capability message
- Unexpected shutdowns
- Heat, swelling or a lifting screen
- Charging-port or cable problems
Know what the battery message means
Apple explains that rechargeable batteries are consumable parts. As they chemically age, they hold less charge and may deliver less peak power. That can mean shorter battery life, slower performance or unexpected shutdowns. If iOS says the battery health is significantly degraded or recommends service, include that message when you contact us.
A low number is not an emergency by itself. Heat, swelling, impact, liquid exposure or a phone coming apart are different warning signs. Stop using the phone for those symptoms instead of continuing to test it.
Separate fast drain from charging trouble
Fast drain and a charging problem can happen at the same time, but they are not the same diagnosis. A cable, adapter, debris, charging port, temperature, software, battery or board fault can affect charging. Bring the cable you normally use when the connection is part of the problem.
Don’t dig into the port with a pin or blade. Don’t keep reconnecting a cable if the phone or connector gets hot. Tell us whether it charges wirelessly, whether the cable feels loose, and whether the battery still drains while the phone is not being used.
Use charging settings as Apple intended
On supported iPhones, Optimized Battery Charging or Charge Limit may stop or delay charging above a selected level. Apple says those features are designed to reduce battery wear. A phone stopping near 80 percent does not automatically mean the battery or port failed.
Check Settings, then Battery, then Charging or Battery Health & Charging. Note the selected option before changing anything. If the phone still drains quickly or shuts down, tell us what the setting showed and what happened during normal use.
Back up before battery service
If the iPhone is safe and works normally, make a current backup and confirm that important photos and messages are included. Apple recommends backing up before service. If the phone will not stay on and the data is your only copy, say that before work begins.
Keep your Apple Account password, device passcode and security details private. Apple says not to give those details to anyone else. Don’t put them in our quote form. Common questions
Does low iPhone Battery Health always mean I need a battery today?
Not always. Record the maximum capacity, Peak Performance Capability message, runtime, shutdowns and any heat or swelling. The model and condition should be checked before a repair is recommended.
Why does my iPhone stop charging near 80 percent?
Optimized Battery Charging, Charge Limit or temperature protection can delay or limit charging on supported models. Check the charging setting and tell us what the phone shows before assuming the port or battery failed.
Can a weak battery cause an iPhone to shut down?
Apple says an aged battery can lose the ability to deliver peak power and may contribute to unexpected shutdowns. Other faults can cause similar symptoms, so the phone still needs evaluation.
Should I back up before an iPhone battery repair?
Yes, when the phone is safe and usable. Apple recommends making a current backup before service and keeping passwords, passcodes and account-security details private.
