A recent Tamarac inquiry mentioned a damaged iPhone screen and a cracked rear camera lens. When someone says the lens is cracked, I first want to know what is actually broken. It may be the outside cover glass, the camera may have trouble focusing, or both problems may be present. Don’t press the damaged area or add glue. Check only what is safe, back up the phone, and give us the exact model and camera symptoms.
Stop using the iPhone if the camera area has sharp loose glass, the phone is unusually hot or swollen, the frame is open, or liquid got into the damaged area. Don’t press the phone closed. Keep it away from moisture and call a store for a safe next step.
The outside glass and the camera are not the same part
The clear cover over a rear camera can crack while the camera still opens. That does not prove the camera module is healthy. Impact can also affect focus, stabilization, flash or the image itself. I would not promise a lens-only repair until the exact model and condition are checked.
Tell us whether the crack is over one camera, whether any glass is missing, and whether the Camera app shows blur, spots, shaking, a black image or a focus problem. Also tell us whether the damage happened with a drop, back-glass break or liquid exposure.

Don’t press, polish or glue the damaged area
Keep fingers and pressure away from cracked cover glass. Don’t scrape it, peel it, add household glue or rub it with an abrasive cleaner. Those steps can move loose pieces or create more damage around the camera opening.
Apple says to unplug the iPhone, turn it off and use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth for normal exterior cleaning. Apple also says not to use compressed air or let moisture enter openings. If the camera cover is cracked or loose, I would skip cleaning that damaged area and bring the phone in safely.
Test the cameras only if the phone is safe
Apple recommends removing a case, film or magnetic accessory that may block the camera or flash. If the phone is safe and the glass is not loose, take one normal photo, check the flashlight, then compare the front and rear cameras. On a multi-camera iPhone, note which zoom setting shows the problem.
Do not keep shaking, tapping or pressing the camera area to make it focus. A restart and current iOS update can help rule out a software problem, but they will not repair broken glass. If blur, a black image, shaking or flash trouble remains, the phone needs evaluation.
Back up before camera or back-glass service
If the iPhone is safe and usable, make a current iCloud or computer backup before repair. Apple explains that a backup keeps a copy of your information if the device is damaged or needs to be replaced. Confirm that important photos are included instead of assuming every item has synced.
