A new Davie inquiry came in for an iPhone that got wet and started showing a charging error. If your iPhone says Liquid Detected or Charging Not Available, don’t keep reconnecting the cable. That warning is there to protect the connector. I would start by unplugging it, letting it dry the way Apple recommends, and deciding whether the phone or the data is the priority before more testing.
Stop using and charging the iPhone if it is unusually hot, swollen, smoking, hissing, smells burned or is coming apart. Move away from it if there is an immediate battery or fire risk. Don’t press the phone closed, connect another cable or place it on a wireless charger when the back is wet.
Disconnect the cable and read the exact warning
Apple says supported iPhones can block Lightning or USB-C charging when liquid is detected in the connector, cable or accessory. Unplug both ends of the cable. Don’t assume the charging port needs replacement from the message alone.
Write down the exact alert and what happened before it appeared. Tell us whether the phone was dropped in liquid, splashed, exposed to humidity, or only shows the warning with one cable. A damaged cable can also trigger the warning when the phone itself is dry.

Let the connector dry—don’t force it
Apple says to tap the iPhone gently against your hand with the connector facing down, then leave it in a dry place with airflow. For a liquid-detection alert, Apple says you can try again after at least 30 minutes. If the alert returns, liquid may still be under the connector pins, and drying can take up to 24 hours.
If you know the iPhone was exposed to liquid, Apple separately says not to charge it until it is completely dry and to allow at least five hours before connecting a cable. I would not keep testing every few minutes. Give it time, and stop if heat, swelling or another unsafe symptom appears.
Skip rice, heat and tools
Don’t use a hair dryer, oven or compressed air. Don’t push a cotton swab, paper towel, pin or tool into the connector. Apple also says not to put the iPhone in rice because particles can damage the phone.
Emergency Override can make the phone charge through the warning, but Apple explains that charging while the connector is wet can corrode the pins and cause permanent damage. I would not use that option for routine testing. If the phone is already dry and the alert appears with every Apple cable, it may need service.
Protect the data before more repair attempts
If the iPhone is safe, turns on and has enough battery, check whether the important photos, messages and files are already backed up. Don’t erase or restore the phone just because it will not charge. If the data is the only copy, tell us that before work begins.
A liquid warning does not prove there is board damage. But liquid can affect connectors and components beyond what you can see, and damage can progress. That is why we separate a normal charging repair from board-level evaluation and data-recovery work. None of those outcomes can be guaranteed before inspection.
