If your iPhone is still black after you tried restoring it, I want to know what the computer actually reported. “I tried a restore” and “the restore completed” are different details. Do not keep erasing the phone to see whether the screen comes back. First, write down what happened and tell us whether your files are the priority.
Record the result, not just the word restore
Tell us whether you used Finder, Apple Devices or another program. Record the exact error number or completion message, if you still have it. Say whether the process stopped, disconnected or appeared to finish. If you are unsure, say so; a black display alone cannot confirm that the restore completed.
Also explain what happened first. Did the display flicker before going black? Was there a drop, liquid exposure or previous repair? Include the model and any sounds or vibrations you already noticed. Do not keep pressing buttons or guessing passcodes on a screen you cannot see.
- Exact model, if known
- Original symptom and when it began
- Update or Restore selected, if known
- Computer message or error code
- Whether a backup existed before the attempt
- Your goal: working phone, important files, or both
A restart, update and factory restore are different
Apple states that a factory restore using a computer removes the device's information and settings and installs the software again. Its recovery-mode guidance also distinguishes Update from Restore and says to try updating first if that has not been attempted. Those are not interchangeable names for restarting a phone.
This guide is for preparing an evaluation after an attempt, not instructions to run another restore. If preserving data matters, discuss the history before authorizing further software work. Do not assume a failed attempt erased everything, and do not assume your files survived. The result needs to be understood.
A restore attempt does not identify the broken part
A black screen after software troubleshooting is not enough for me to promise a screen replacement or call it a board fault. The shop needs to evaluate the device and the sequence of symptoms. Bring the computer error details along with the phone; that gives us a more useful starting point than repeating the same attempt.
Apple says service may be needed when recovery-mode updating or restoring cannot be completed. That guidance does not diagnose your particular phone or guarantee that another restore will fix it. If the phone is hot, swollen, separating or liquid-damaged, stop using and charging it and arrange an evaluation.
Check existing copies before discussing data recovery
Look for backups or synced files that were already saved before the problem. Our iCloud photo-check guide below explains one place to start. Seeing some photos elsewhere does not prove that every app, message or file was backed up.
If a factory restore completed, do not expect a replacement display to bring the erased local information back. Tell us which files matter and which copies you have found. Recovery options and a usable-phone repair are separate questions; neither result is promised here.
Use the Davie, Tamarac or Fort Lauderdale / Swap Shop links below to request an evaluation. Send the model, symptoms and restore result, but keep passwords, passcodes and verification codes out of the form. Ask about the evaluation, proposed work and cost before approving a repair.

Common questions
Does a black screen prove the restore failed?
No. Record what the computer reported. A black display by itself does not establish whether the process completed or identify the failed component.
Will a new screen bring back data erased by a factory restore?
Do not expect a display replacement to undo an erase. Check existing backups or synced copies and explain your data priorities before authorizing more work.
Should I repeat a restore before requesting help?
Start by recording the previous attempt and its result. If data matters, discuss that history with the repair team before authorizing further erasing or software work.
