Motorola Razr outer-screen repair preparation

Razr Outer Screen Cracked but the Phone Still Works? Get the Right Quote

Darwin explains what to send for a Motorola Razr outer-screen repair quote, how to distinguish the cover display from the folding screen, and how to prepare safely.

If your Razr still works but the outside screen is cracked, tell me which screen and which Razr. That is the quickest way to make the repair request useful. The smaller cover display, the folding main display and its protective liner are different things. I would not quote one as though it were the other.

Name the outside display, then describe what still works

Motorola calls the screen used when the Razr is closed the external display. Its 2025 guide describes separate external-display settings and ways to move apps between the two screens. For a repair request, “outer screen” or “cover display” is clearer than “front glass.”

Tell us whether the outside screen shows a normal picture, has lines or black areas, and responds to touch. Describe the inside screen separately. Do not keep pressing cracked glass to prove that touch works. A working main display does not establish the condition of the outside display or identify the part required.

If the damage is actually near the fold or the inner liner is lifting, use our separate Razr screen-line and protector guide linked below. Do not peel the inner film as a test.

Confirm the model before comparing prices

Send the model name and year exactly as shown in About phone, the box or the original order. Include whether it says razr, razr+, or razr ultra. If you cannot confirm the model, say that instead of guessing from how the phone looks.

Describe any hinge resistance, frame damage, liquid exposure or previous screen work. These details help the store decide what needs evaluation. Do not force the phone open or closed to check the hinge.

If you send a photo through an agreed store contact channel, show the damage without private notifications, account details or documents in view. Keep passwords, screen-lock codes and verification codes out of the quote request.

Protect the phone and check your backup

I would avoid rubbing the crack, pressing loose glass, applying glue or attempting to lift a display edge. If the phone is hot, swollen, separating or has known liquid damage, stop using and charging it and arrange an evaluation.

Motorola specifically advises leaving its pre-installed folding-screen liner in place and not adding a third-party protector to the internal display. An outside-screen crack is not a reason to disturb that liner.

If the phone is cool, dry and safe to use, check your existing Android backup before repair. Confirm the files you actually need are saved. Google notes that not every app backs up or restores all of its data; signing into an account alone does not confirm a complete backup. Do not factory-reset the phone just to prepare a price request.

Ask what the estimate includes

Ask which display or assembly the estimate covers, whether inspection is required, whether parts are available for the exact model, and what testing is included afterward. Ask about diagnostic charges, total cost and the written coverage for the proposed work before approving it.

A phone that still works may have damage beyond the visible crack. I would not promise a glass-only repair, a fixed price or a completion time from that description alone. The estimate should match the condition found and the work you authorize.

Common questions

Is the Razr outer screen the same as the folding screen?

No. The external or cover display is used with the phone closed. The larger main screen folds inside the phone. Describe the picture, touch and damage on each separately.

Can I get a glass-only price because the phone still works?

Working touch or a normal picture alone does not establish which repair is appropriate. Ask the store to confirm the exact model, damage and proposed display or assembly before comparing prices.

Should I remove the inner protector when the outer screen is cracked?

No. Motorola advises against removing the pre-installed liner or adding a third-party protector to the internal display. Keep the outer-screen request separate from an inner-liner problem.
