A PS5 that powers on but shows no picture may have HDMI-port damage, but the cable, television settings, video circuit or another internal component can cause similar symptoms. The visible port and the console’s behavior both matter.

Symptoms that may point to the HDMI port

A loose cable, bent or missing pins, a port pushed into the console, or a picture that cuts in and out when the cable moves can indicate physical damage. The problem often begins after the console is moved while connected or the cable receives an impact.

Do not force the cable into a damaged port. Continuing to move it can damage pads or traces on the board and make the repair more involved.

  • No picture while the console appears to power on
  • Visible bent or missing pins
  • Cable feels loose in the console
  • Image flickers when the connector moves
  • Damage started after moving or dropping the console

Rule out the simple causes safely

Try a known-good HDMI cable and another known-working television input. Confirm that the television is set to the correct input. If the console has visible port damage, stop inserting cables and arrange an evaluation.

A black screen does not prove the port is the only fault. The HDMI encoder, board traces, power supply and other components can also affect video output.

  • Test one known-good cable
  • Try another verified TV input
  • Do not pry or straighten pins
  • Note lights, sounds and shutdown behavior
  • Bring the console without unnecessary accessories unless asked

What HDMI-port repair involves

Port replacement is board-level work. The console must be opened, the damaged connector removed, the board inspected and a compatible port installed and tested. Torn pads or trace damage can change the repair path.

Phone Repair Guy evaluates supported PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles. Repairability, price, parts and timing depend on the exact console and damage.

Common questions

Does a blue or white light mean the HDMI port is broken?

Not by itself. Console lights help describe the symptom, but they do not identify the failed component.

Can I bend an HDMI pin back myself?

That can worsen connector or board damage. Stop inserting cables and have the port inspected.

Is every PS5 no-picture problem an HDMI-port repair?

No. Cables, displays, settings and internal video or board faults can produce similar symptoms.
