You can finally touch a MacBook screen and have it do something. Apple announced its MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display on October 28, with availability beginning November 6. I wanted to share what the change means before anyone assumes their existing MacBook can do it too.

Apple finally did it: touchscreen MacBook Pro. Swipe pages. Pinch to zoom. New PROLED XDR models. Not an update for older Macs. Available from November 6, 2026. Would you use it? Phone Repair Guy.
What can you do with the touchscreen?
Apple describes swiping through webpages, pinching to zoom into photos and interacting directly with creative apps. The keyboard and trackpad remain part of the experience. The new 14- and 16-inch models also use a tandem OLED display.
Check the exact model
This announcement applies to the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display. It does not turn every MacBook into a touchscreen. Touch requires the new display hardware; a software update cannot add that hardware to an older laptop.
Would it be useful for you?
My first question would be what you would use it for. Photo adjustments, presentations and creative work may give you different answers from spreadsheets or writing all day.
- Try the gestures in an app you actually use before deciding.
- Compare the exact model and configuration, not just the MacBook Pro name.
- Keep your current files backed up before changing computers.
