iPad Screen Repair Quote: What Does “Screen” Include?

Darwin explains how to compare iPad screen estimates: confirm the model, ask what glass, touch or display work is included, and agree on testing and total cost.

Two estimates can both say “iPad screen repair” and cover different work. Before comparing the price, I would ask each shop to describe the part and the repair it is quoting. A normal picture behind cracked glass is useful information. It is not a promise that a glass-only repair is available for your iPad.

Ask what “screen” means in this estimate

The glass you touch, the touch-sensing layer often called the digitizer, and the display that produces the picture describe different functions. An estimate may cover a component or a larger assembly. Ask which one is proposed for your exact model; do not assume every iPad uses the same repair method.

The useful question is: “What will you replace, and what will you keep?” Ask whether the price includes the proposed part, installation, any necessary frame work and testing. A cheaper number is only a useful comparison when the scope is clear.

Do not order a part or approve glass-only work just because the tablet still turns on. The model and inspection determine the options. If the quote is preliminary, ask what could change after the device is checked.

Separate what you see from what you want repaired

Describe the visible crack, the picture and touch response separately. For example: “The glass is cracked, the picture looks normal, but the right side does not respond.” That is a symptom description, not a diagnosis. Do not press broken glass to collect more detail.

Tell us about a bent frame, lifting screen, liquid exposure or previous screen work. If the display is black, say whether you noticed sounds or other signs of power without repeatedly trying to start it. Mention important files before agreeing to any work that could affect the data.

Apple recommends basic checks such as restarting and disconnecting accessories for intermittent touch problems. Those checks do not identify a replacement part or repair cracked glass. If the tablet is damaged, hot or separating, stop using and charging it and arrange an evaluation.

Compare the written scope, not just the headline price

I would keep this short checklist beside both estimates. Ask for anything unclear in writing before authorizing the work.

  • The same iPad model and the same reported damage
  • The component or assembly included and how the replacement part is described
  • Labor, applicable tax and any diagnostic or additional charges
  • What happens if inspection reveals frame damage or another fault
  • Picture and touch testing, plus any model-specific features to be checked
  • Parts availability, expected timing and written repair coverage

Know when an estimate still needs inspection

Apple also states that it needs to inspect an iPad to provide a personalized service estimate. Apple's service options, pricing and coverage are separate from PRG's; an Apple estimate is not a PRG quote or evidence of an Apple affiliation.

For our quote request, send the model if known, the symptoms and your preferred store. Leave passwords and passcodes out of the form. Use our model-identification guide below if you need help finding the model; there is no need to erase the iPad for a price request.

Choose Davie, Tamarac or Fort Lauderdale / Swap Shop below. Ask the store to confirm the proposed repair and availability before travelling. When a store is closed, send an online request for its next opening.

Common questions

Does a normal picture mean I only need the glass repaired?

No. It helps describe the damage, but it does not establish the appropriate repair or part. Confirm the exact model and have the device evaluated before approving a glass-only estimate.

What should two iPad screen quotes include so I can compare them?

Compare the same model and damage, the proposed component or assembly, labor and other charges, testing, parts availability and written coverage. Ask what may change after inspection.

Should I reset my iPad before asking for a screen quote?

No. Start with the model and symptoms. Keep account passwords and passcodes out of the request, and discuss any data-affecting work before authorizing it.
